Sooners still favored in South After winning three of the last four Big 12 championships, the Oklahoma Sooners were picked to finish first in the South division in the Big 12 media poll. Coach Bob Stoops and senior offensive lineman Jon Cooper, defensive back Nic Harris and receiver Manuel Johnson addressed the media Wednesday.

The Houston Cougars were picked to finish second behind Tulsa in the West division in the annual Conference USA Coaches' Preseason Poll on Tuesday.

Tulsa, which won the division last year after handing UH a 56-7 defeat to secure the top spot in the West, was picked unanimously to repeat their performance.

KANSAS CITY - Texas A&M football head coach Mike Sherman almost had to correct himself while talking about his latest recruiting class. Discussing some of the new offensive lineman he recruited, he paused and said, "I almost said drafted."

"He does that all the time - calling recruiting drafting," said junior defensive back Jordan Pugh.
